The Zoar Wetland entered into a new partnership with the staff at the Zoar Community Association in 2011 to create some exciting new programs.  The wetland is now being used as an outdoor classroom for Zoar and our own naturalist is leading the project.  Towpath Tours, Nature Walks, and Day Camps are just the beginning.

We want to thank Jenny, Becka, and Sherrie at the ZCA for all their hard work and dedication to both the Village of Zoar and the Wetland.  We look forward to another great season in 2012

Coming Soon, New Trail Benches at the
Dogwood Grove

Mike Porter is earning his Eagle Scout badge by designing and installing new trail benches at the Dogwood Grove.  We are honored to have Mike take on this project and wish him well in his Scouting adventures.

These old benches are teetering on cement blocks
and are falling apart.

FAQ: "Does the lake freeze hard enough to walk on?"

The shallow lake may appear to be frozen solid, but don't count on it.  The water level is constantly fluctuating, and there is enough movement under the ice to make it unstable.

The times it has been solid enough to walk on the temps had to be below 20 deg for at least two weeks to be safe.  Even then, the ice will heave and crack as the water level underneath drops to create a void.  And, if it freezes solid, a few days above 32 and the ice starts to crack and soften.

Never drive a vehicle across the ice.
